Abstract :
Due to the availability of low-cost digital computers and the advantages found in working with digital signals, a current trend is set in employing digital controllers in analog control systems while attempting to achieve desired performance. To design a discrete controller, it ubiquitously utilizes the method of discrete equivalent of analog controllers. All methods that are used in the aforementioned context, are approximate and plant dependent. In this endeavor, the available techniques are analyzed in the context of obtaining a desired set point of an armature controlled d.c.motor while in search for the best method. Moreover, the matched pole-zero mapping method is improved by introducing a plant dependent multiplicative constant to the mapping function to make it better than the best available technique in the aforementioned context.
