Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of different preradiation defects (stoichiometric and impurity ones) on the processes of radiation damage and recovery of tungstate crystals. The investigation allowed to determine the factors which defined both the decrease and increase of the radiation stability of CdWO4 and other tungstate crystals. The optimal conditions for making the scintillators on the basis of cadmium tungstate, the radiation stability of which is 3 times higher than that of conventionally used at present in tomographs, were determined. The light output drift of tomographic elements did not exceed 0.1-0.5% after irradiation
