Abstract :
In the continuous pursuit of reducing operating costs, the cost of fuel is an area that is motivating the cement industry to explore options other than traditional fuels. These alternative fuels are attractive financially, but the implementation process can be problematic and plants have often resorted to a trial and error approach that can create a negative impact. This paper illustrates the systematic approach to utilizing alternative fuels in what is referred to as the complete solution. This complete solution includes everything required to have an effective solution from the time of installation - from the analysis and processing of the available fuels to their utilization in the system with emphasis on complying with all permitted limits. These permitted limits are not solely on gaseous emissions, but also include parameters concerning the final product quality.
