Abstract :
Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) is one of key technologies in 4G system. Band AMC technique enables the Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) system to achieve their maximum throughput by efficient utilization of wireless channel characteristics. Band AMC with the adjacent subcarrier allocation specified in 4G system (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) standard) can use maximum 5 best bands no matter of channel conditions. Therefore Band AMC is used only when channel condition is good. If channel condition turns to bad, Band AMC is not used and changes the mode to Partial Usage of SubChannels (PUSC) or Full Usage of SubChannels (FUSC). In this paper, Band AMC algorithm with dynamic band selection are proposed, which is controlled by wireless channel conditions and is allocated to the different number of bands. Their performances are investigated. Simulation results show that the proposed Band AMC algorithm allows to about 20% throughput improvement as compared to the legacy band AMC algorithm defined in WiMAX standard.
