Title :
Prototyping a navigation database of road network attributes (PANDORA)
Author_Institution :
Ordnance Survey, Southampton, UK
Abstract :
The author describes a project to create and test a prototype navigation database, which has been accepted for support under the European Community´s DRIVE initiative. The data requirements of future vehicle navigation systems such as CARIN, EVA, and the Autoguide pilot scheme for London are examined. Digital street networks extracted from Ordnance Survey´s large-scale digital mapping, and the necessary road and traffic attributes will be gathered and integrated in a prototype database for parts of London and Birmingham and their motorway connections. This database will then be tested using the Autoguide. CARIN, and Travelpilot/EVA systems. The data set will also be available for testing as benchmark number 12 within the Eureka project PROMETHEUS. The authors present the objectives and work program of the project, its relationship to other European initiatives on vehicle navigation, and a review of the progress achieved.<>
