Abstract :
This work draws an analogy between optical fibers and Sommerfeld wires because of their similar geometries. The weak guidance approximation for single-mode fibers is also shown to apply to Sommerfeld wires. Results pertaining to bending loss in optical fiber are adapted and applied to Sommerfeld wires, predicting a method by which bending loss in Sommerfeld wires could be reduced.
