The adaptation and introduction of Hewlett Packard´s Teamwork into a microprocessor-based digital systems laboratory

Hewlett Packard Teamwork is a computer-aided software engineering package which contains many features which make it adaptable to a mixed hardware/software design approach such as that used in microprocessor-based design. The modifications needed for such a mixed hardware-software design approach and its subsequent introduction into the microprocessor-based digital systems design laboratory at the University of California, Santa Barbara are discussed. The procedure for introducing Teamwork was divided into two distinct phases. The first phase consisted of establishing a set of rules which would serve as guidelines for the first group of students to use the tool. The result of this initial work was a users manual, to be used in the second phase, which contained references, the user guidelines, and design examples. The second phase of the project involved introducing the tool to a graduate-level microprocessor design class, ECE 252C.
