Abstract
This paper details our experience in developing and delivering a novel Electrical Engineering subject, Design Proficiency. The Faculty of Engineering at the University of New South Wales places a strong emphasis on the design skills of the students we graduate. At the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications we have taken this philosophy forward and developed a novel subject that is valuable to the students´ learning experience, and serves as a quality control point to the curriculum. In this paper we describe the philosophy underpinning the subject, our experience in delivering it, and discuss how it fulfills its intended purpose.
