Abstract :
Measurements of periodic arrangements of dielectric and conducting spheres were performed at terahertz frequencies, for a variety of lattice arrangements. For loosely-coupled spheres, for which the size of the unit cell was twice the sphere diameter, Mie theory was shown to accurately predict transmission resonances. However, for more tightly-packed arrangements, full-wave periodic FDTD simulations were needed, in order to realize a close match with the measurements.
