Abstract
This paper introduces two related algorithms for time delay estimation (TDE). The proposed algorithms are employed for real-time TDE and are applicable to time-varying environments. The cross-correlation (CC) is at the basis of both algorithms. The first algorithm computes a ldquoroughrdquo estimate of the optimal delay to the nearest ldquoM-th sampling periodrdquo, where M is an integer larger than 1. The second algorithm estimates the optimum delay up to the nearest sampling period. The algorithms perform a ldquoparallel samplingrdquo of the CC function within a search range.
