Abstract
Cross-phase modulation (XPM) induced phase fluctuations in a periodically dispersion-managed (DM) wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) transmission line has been studied. Analytical estimation for phase shift has been deduced using variational analysis and numerical simulations based on split-step Fourier method has been performed to validate the analytical results. We investigate different periodic DM models and therefore the effects of initial pulse spacing between channels and channel spacing on phase shift have been studied. We find that XPM-induced phase fluctuations can be mitigated by properly choosing DM model along with due adjustment of channel spacing.
