Abstract :
The author describes the first integrated services digital network (ISDN) in Taiwan, deployed in 1989. The ISDN trial, with customized applications for different business customers, introduced ISDN from the end-user´s perspective. ISDN offers Taiwan business and residential customers with any combination of voice, data and image services. With the use of the basic rate transmission extension, the ISDN trial can reach virtually every corner in Taiwan. Applications included in the ISDN trial are described. The trial involved the telephone company as the service provider and the network provider, other customer premises equipment (CPE) vendors, and end-customers
