Abstract
The crate service card (CSC), has been designed and built to complete the readout of the instrumented flux return (IFR) of the BABAR experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The CSC, which is physically part of the on-detector electronics, implements the slow control interface between the front end cards (FECs) and the IFR on-line detector control system (IODC). It broadcasts the 59.5 MHz clock and data settings information to 16 configurable FEC boards through individual asynchronous RS232 serial lines at a rate of 115200 baud, performs initialization and readout with the DCS via an optic isolated controller area network (CAN) serial port. All the RS232 serial line logic is implemented in one fast FPGA device, while one microcontroller is devoted to the CAN bus protocol. This paper addresses the architecture and the performance of the CSC, an overview of the IFR electronics system is also presented.
