Abstract :
An outline is presented of a neural network approach to modelling the mind. A global programme of the relational mind is first presented, which is then expanded along three different avenues. One relates to the electrical stimulation experiments of B. Libet (1982) and to the cortical control structures which may be involved in consciousness, and the phenomenon of ´backward referral in time´ discovered by Libet. The relational structures involved in meaning are then explored, and how such relations might be learnt. Finally damage to interactions between various cortical areas leading to deficits is considered, and the possible seat of conscious awareness is discussed in the conclusion.
