Abstract :
MATLAB is a very useful tool when it comes to simulating the bit error rate (BER) of a WiMAX 802.16e system. However, despite its flexibility, the time taken for a simulation to be completed is rather significant. This is due to the time cumulated to simulate a sufficient number of frames to get an accurate result. Multiple simulations with varying parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are also required to reflect the dynamic real world channel conditions which consequently contribute into a lengthy computation time. To overcome this, we present a solution utilizing the parallel computing capability of MATLAB in which the simulation is divided into multiple parallel instances running in multiple processing cores. This results into a noticeable decrease in simulation time proportionate to the number of processing cores used while maintaining a decent accuracy.
