Abstract
Power system restructuring with high renewable energy penetration has created some new problems for reliability evaluation. One of the problems is the large computation time due to the increased number of renewable generators. In this regard, the reliability network equivalent techniques have been introduced to simplify calculation. These techniques are simpler than the conventional contingency enumeration techniques. This paper presents a novel reliability network equivalent approach to form transmission system model based on configuration and maximum capacity of the branches between generators and loads. The fixed multistate transmission equivalents can be introduced for the transmission system of power grids. The equivalents can be easily applied for any load and generation levels. The technique is illustrated using the Roy Billinton Test System (RBTS) and the results are compared with other techniques.
