Abstract :
The dispersion diagrams of certain metamaterial structures exhibit a near-zero phase propagation constant beta within a restricted range of frequencies (therefore behaving as a near-zero refractive index material). This special characteristic is exploited to synthesize uniformly illuminated arrays. Design theory is elaborated and simulated results are presented, showing a satisfactory performance for the designed array.
