Abstract :
The need to have accurate and fast simulating dynamic thermal compact models is more and more increasing since power dissipations (up to 300 W/cm2 nowadays) and reducing chip´s size are becoming widespread for traction applications such as electric and hybrid vehicles. In this paper we present a new methodology for obtaining mathematically reduced thermal models of power devices able to take into account changes in the boundary conditions. Such dynamic thermal reduced models can be utilised in electro-thermal, thermo-mechanical simulations, power module lifetime estimation, or even real-time control of the junction temperature of IGBTs and FWDs integrated in vehicles
