Abstract
Smooth output control signals and zero state output errors to step changes in the reference and disturbances, are common requirements in real process applications. This paper compares and describes the application of two variable structure controllers with integral action, which satisfy the above requirements, providing a robust performance in the face of uncertainty. The control of a pressurized tank is used as a practical test base for the comparison of the algorithms
