  • Abstract
For hybrid overlay networks of WLAN and high-tier mobile networks, an adaptive medium access control (MAC) scheme of using CSMA/CA with ready-to-send (RTS)/clear-to-send (CTS) plus TDMA is addressed and analyzed. If the speed of subscriber station is higher than a preset threshold, the TDMA is used, otherwise the CSMA/CA with RTS/CTS is used. The saturation throughputs of the adaptive MAC and the CSMA/CA are evaluated under the consideration of link disconnection probabilities. Numerical results of throughputs are presented for the adaptive MAC and compared to those of the CSMA/CA with RTS/CTS
