Abstract
The nature of financial information exchanged between banks, the relevance of open systems interconnection (OSI) to this exchange, and the use of particular OSI services are described. The author notes the small impact made to date by OSI on thinking at senior bank management level, and asks whether this is a failure of OSI as a product, or a failure of bank management to grasp new opportunities
