Abstract :
Results are presented of a survey conducted in the summer of 1989 of all NRECA (National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) member systems on their experience with distribution automation and their plans for the future. The survey revealed a considerable interest by the cooperative segment of the US power industry in distribution automation. Cost, however, is the key factor that will determine whether this interest will turn into implementation. The survey also revealed that a moderate number of cooperatives now have distribution SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition). It also uncovered some clear patterns among cooperatives in the perceived performance of, and preference for, communication systems for distribution SCADA and distribution automation
