Abstract
In Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) [1] networks, the Local Mobile Anchor (LMA) handles both management control and tunneling traffic for Mobile Nodes (MN) or Mobile Host (MH), which is a single point of bottleneck. Multiple LMAs are usually arranged in a management domain by operators to increase load capacity. However, the network-side load information is not carefully considered in most existing schemes, which might result in load unbalance among LMAs. To solve this problem, a distributed policy decision-making architecture including a LMA-assist selection scheme is proposed as an extension to PMIPv6. The basic idea behind the extension is that each LMA maintains the load information of other LMAs´ in the domain and makes decision to help selection procedure in a distributed manner. The architecture organizes LMAs which forms a distributed functional layer to achieve adaptation and load balance. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture can increase the rate of successful registrations as well as reduce signaling overheads.
