Abstract
Electrets are still not very well known in science and engineering, even though practically everybody speaks through them, since they form the essential element of every electret microphone. In this paper, the author looks at the fundamental principles that are at work when electric charges are used to translate mechanical motion into electrical signals or vice versa.
