Abstract
The Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management System (FREEDM System) is a revolutionary distribution system that is currently being studied at the newly NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC). Established in 2008, the center´s research mission is to develop the fundamental and enabling technologies necessary to implement the paradigm shifting FREEDM System. In this paper, the main features of the FREEDM system is discussion. In addition to its research mission, the center is also developing a comprehensive and innovative power engineering education program from K-12 to Ph.D. levels.
