Abstract :
We are interested in helping naive users-naive in the sense they have no music copyist experience but they do know some music theory-create publication quality music scores. We would like them to be able to accomplish this goal with as little effort as possible. The approach with which we have been experimenting has been to 1) model our system on a word processing paradigm with whose basic interface the user is already familiar to reduce training time, 2) provide a way for the user to specify, with minimal effort the minimal information required to insert and position notational elements, and 3) use music notational constraints to automatically handle the positioning of elements based on this minimal specification
