Abstract
Electroluminescence from a gold-containing polymeric layer was investigated in the high-field, prebreakdown regime. Current and luminescence were studied as a function of the excitation voltage waveform for samples containing low gold volume fraction. It is proposed that the electroluminescence is due to the relaxation of surface plasmon polaritons excited by the conduction current at the surface of the metallic electrodes
