  • Abstract
In many critical drive applications, such as in automotive power steering, automations and other high performance drives, the system comprising the inverter and motors is required, even under faults, to operate stably and meet drive requirements for a period of time before the system can be (self) repaired. A cost effective solution includes using flexible and re-configurable converter control algorithms that ensure the proper drive operation, even under fault conditions. The determination of such converter control algorithms requires the models of the converters and motors for all feasible fault conditions. This paper presents the modeling of synchronous-type machines and associated converters under some fault conditions which are required for the development of the control algorithms. Some of the authors´ analytical results are illustrated with experimental results from a 2 hp inverter driven interior permanent-magnet machine.
