  • Abstract
    The author attempts to combine qualitative and numerical simulations, to do information processing tasks that would be difficult using either alone. Advantages of combining qualitative and quantitative simulation are described. Methods for utilizing partial quantitative information about value in the context of qualitative simulation are described. Manipulating representations for partial information about value in the form of intervals, fuzzy intervals and probability distributions are discussed. Probability distributions can be used to infer bounds on probabilities of qualitative behaviors. Q3, an implemented qualitative-quantitative simulator is one example of fine-grained combination of qualitative and quantitative simulation
