Abstract
With a view to reducing road accidents killing or injuring pedestrians, the authors consider possible changes in the timing of pedestrian green and flashing green lights (indicating, respectively, that one may cross the road and that the time for crossing the road is coming to an end) in Japan. To that end, they analyze pedestrians\´ behavioral changes brought about when the pedestrian clearance time, that is the time length of flashing green, was increased. We also investigated the "impatience" felt by pedestrians.
