Abstract :
This paper explores a new and innovative approach to teaching an introductory analysis and design course, adopting Biggspsilas SOLO taxonomy for teaching and learning. The research was undertaken in a large Australian multi-campus University, following reviews and student evaluations that had highlighted significant problems relating to the unit. The paper explores some of the issues involved, including the profile of a new generation of students, aspects of teaching/learning in higher education, and cultivating a new individual learning centred approach called personal learning practice (PLP). Interviews and student feedback conducted at the end of the semester, provided a blend of differing perspectives and interpretations, on the teaching learning activities employed.
