Abstract
Collaboration is essential in knowledge work. Technical professionals collaborate in a number of ways, including various types of teams. Our research used both interviews and questionnaires to follow 50 teams in 10 organizations across time and questionnaires to assess 117 teams in 14 companies. Findings revealed many hurdles to effective teamwork that must be overcome through collaborative design efforts
