Abstract :
A framework named “poly-agent theory of reference activities (PATRA)” is suggested. The authors apply this framework to Japanese-style research and development (R&D) systems. They discuss why Japanese engineers and scientists prefer incremental R&D to fundamental or radical R&D. The authors found an example of macro information produced by a higher-order agent (the corporation) changing internal models of lower-order agents (engineers and scientists)
