Abstract :
Two problems dealing with electromagnetic properties of anisotropic shells having arbitrary cylindrical shapes are examined. The first problem investigates the scattering response of the shell under external, normally incident plane wave excitation. The other problem involves the study of electromagnetic fields radiated through the shell due to a line source placed inside it. These two cases, in practice, simulate antenna radomes used to protect internally placed radiating elements from both environmental as well as external electromagnetic interference. The medium characteristics of the shell are assumed to be anisotropic, but homogeneous as well. Numerical results are presented for both the radar scattering cross section (RCS) of the radome, as well as radiation patterns of line sources located inside the shell
