Abstract
A description is given of an idle detection scheme that could be used when a logical link, using one of several types of synchronous layer-2 protocols, is set up on a B-channel. Once an inactivity state is detected, there are various actions that might be taken. The author describes how an ISDN D-channel information message could be used for alerting a terminal user when this user´s logical link to a remote computer appears to be inactive.<>
