Abstract :
In order to make the IP layer independent of the specified implemention of the optical cross-connects, we propose to use an integrated slim layer to encapsulate the implementation details. It integrates the functions of framing, performance monitoring, lightpath maintenance, and localized protection switching. These functions traditionally belong to different layers. The integrated slim layer can be implemented as the driver module of the optical transport system.
