Abstract
Renewable energy sources (RES) often share two disadvantageous features: they produce energy whenever they want and wherever they want. Alternative primary sources like wind or solar radiation may be available only at remote locations. In the case of off-shore wind farms, expensive high voltage DC lines might be necessary to transport the gained electricity. Additionally, these alternative sources often have inherent stochastic behavior. Especially wind power imposes a great burden on grid operations and management.
