Abstract
Resent advances and applications of power converters will be summarized in this short paper. Going back to the basics, the traditional power converter topologies are revisited, categorized and characterized. The voltage-and current-source topologies are then extended to DC-DC converters and matrix converters. This insightful categorization and characterization has led to many new developments: DC-DC converters for negative input voltage, the introduction of a new converter topology, Z-source, and matrix converters.
