Abstract :
The time sequence control scheme of exciting pulses for ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna array is investigated in consideration of the angle-dependent pulse distortion in UWB short pulse radiation. For a linear UWB antenna array with 5 rectangular aperture antennas as elements, three different time sequence control scheme, viz. the conventional initial-range delay scheme, the peak-range delay scheme, and the center-range delay scheme, are compared. It is shown that due to the angle-dependent pulse distortion in UWB short pulse radiation, the use of the peak-range and center-range delay scheme result in a 7% increase of the maximum radiated field intensity and a 10% increase of the maximum peak-to-peak value of the radiated electric fields if compared to the radiated field excited by the traditional initial-range delay scheme.
