  • Abstract
A new approach to implement the uniaxial perfectly matched layer (UPML) in the finite-element time-domain (FETD) method is described. The new algorithm allows unified treatment of all elements in the computational domain without defining additional auxiliary variables, which greatly simplifies implementation. In addition, the new algorithm has been utilized to extend two recently developed FETD formulations to the UPML. It is shown that these formulations have very good stability properties.
