Abstract :
This paper investigated the use of the dc-to-dc switching converter on a mobile snake-like robot. The mentioned dc-to-dc power converter would be the buck converter using IRF540N MOSFET by International Rectifier on continuous-conduction mode. Circuit simulations were performed, the circuit was constructed for comparison with a readily available buck converter in the market. The National Semiconductor´s Simple Switcher buck converter chip, LM2678T-ADJ, has been used for comparison purposes. The analysis shows that the switching regulator is more efficient compared to linear regulator in low-voltage high-current applications.
