Abstract :
Increasingly, PWM voltage source inverters (VSIs) are being considered for medium-voltage power quality products. However, the high cost of PWM VSIs in comparison with classical thyristor based systems has hampered a strong market penetration of the PWM-VSI. In this paper, the impact of semiconductor device selection, converter topologies and soft-switching techniques on medium-voltage inverter system cost are investigated and discussed
