Abstract :
The paper presents a study to assess the use of SAR data to map and monitor deforestation in Sumatra, a region characterized by rapid depletion of the rain forest. Two approaches, for forest/non-forest mapping, are compared: 1$Temporal change approach using ERS and JERS data, 2- Interferometric approach using coherence images from the ERS interferometric pairs. The results obtained from both approaches and both sensors are determined by comparing the results with SPOT HRV data
