Abstract
An integrated dual planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) with tunable antenna height for handheld devices is proposed. The antenna is composed of two conventional PIFAs merged together through a common metallic strip and a shorting pin connected to the ground plane. The two L-shaped slots on the ground plane are used to reduce the mutual coupling between the planar antenna elements and the chassis, and to decrease the height of the proposed antenna. Good isolation is obtained in the frequency band of 2.25 ~ 2.6 GHz for IEEE 802.11n wireless local area network (WLAN) application. Design and measurement results are presented and discussed.
