Abstract
The paper describes the history and experiences of developing a generator instruction following and monitoring process. The economic drivers for its use in a maturing and competitive electricity market are examined together with the statutory and commercial frameworks in which The National Grid Company (NGC), as the transmission system operator must work. An explanation is given of the monitoring principles, procedures in place, indicative results analysed to date and the effect on the industry´s performance. In addition the paper explores the opportunities for further development
