Abstract :
In this paper, we propose an automatic system for restoration of old colored postcards that use multiple techniques combined as segmentation, color enhancement and noisy spots removal. The segmentation is used to separate the border region in order to facilitate the spots removal. To enhance colors, the overall document degradation is regarded as an illumination problem. This simplification allows the use of color constancy algorithms. The system was applied to a set of postcards from the end of the 19th Century with visually high quality results.
