  • Abstract
This paper develops a programming model to estimate the cost of supplying electricity to end user customer classes in a widespread interconnected power system with a low population density, using economic efficiency criteria. The electricity supply industry in Queensland, Australia, is used as a context for the modelling. The State has uniform retail tariffs and a reticulated area nearly four times that of the United Kingdom, which has approximately 19 times the State´s population
