Abstract :
Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET), the most important specie of thermoplastic polyester, have been widely used in humans´ life. Waste PET is not easy to degradation and become a burden for the environment; therefore, its recycling is very important. High surface area activated carbon is prepared by chemical activation using waste PET. The experiment condition are as follows: carbonization temperature 500°C, 30 min, ratio of alkaline/PET 4:1, activation temperature 800°C, 60 min. Surface area of the product can reach 1527~1608m2/g. With KOH and K2CO3 as activators, activated carbon with a large number of micro and meso pore is obtained.
