Abstract :
The polished fiber having a polishing depth d-a near 0.20 μm existed optical loss no greater than 0.5 dB. In our experiments, the polishing depth was controlled well and the accuracy was within +0.25 μm. We found our side-polished fibers had negligible optical loss. In addition, the radius of grooves can be dynamically set, thereby achieving a long effective polishing length. Our results were very attractive in making passive, or active fiber devices, or even in studying nonlinear optics
