Abstract :
At Nova Southeastern University, the VLSI course lasts for nine weeks. In that time, the student has to learn how to use Magic. The author describes the creation of a computer assisted instruction (CAI) program to teach the basics of the Magic tool. The purpose of the CAI program was to acquaint the student with the Magic tool in a short period of time, and to teach the basics of the tool. An instructional analysis was used to identify and sequence the essential skills, knowledge, attitudes, and events which are required to reach an instructional goal in the most efficient and effective way. This process helps to come up with the topics needed for each section of the program
